We foster a supportive learning environment with a solid background in research and quality improvement. Our residents are trained in a wide variety of pathology and large volume of cases secondary to our hospital being a Comprehensive Stroke Center, Transplant Institute, Children’s Hospital, Cancer Center, Proton Treatment and Research Center, and Level I Trauma Center (the largest and only Level I Trauma Center in the San Bernardino, Riverside, Inyo, and Mono counties).

A guided research mentorship program begins in the first year of residency. For research accepted for presentation, the program provides financial support and dedicated time to attend the conference. Residents have presented projects across the country, as well as in Canada, Spain, South Korea, France, and the Netherlands. For every publication for which a resident is first author, they are awarded a monetary bonus.
We are actively developing an Artificial Intelligence lab, and currently have many AI research projects in progress with the goal to leverage the potential of AI in our daily clinical work and education, ultimately to improve the delivery of healthcare. The AI laboratory provides a unique opportunity for residents and medical students to learn and explore a new and exciting field while cultivating valuable skills for the future.
