Call Schedule

Disclaimer: we do our best to keep call schedules accurate, but changes to the program happen including call schedules so your mileage may vary.

Here at Loma Linda, we split calls into different imaging modalities. Here’s a description of each type of call and who takes them.

Diagnostic Evening Call (Level 1): ED and urgent care radiographs, ultrasound, and fluoroscopies.

  • R1 “Buddy Call” (January – June)
  • R2 (July – December)

These “shifts” are part of a 4-week rotation but overlap with call hours (1 PM – 9 PM).

Body PM: Adult and pediatric ED and UC body imaging (CT, MRI)

  • One block during R2

Neuro PM: Adult and pediatric ED, UC, and inpatient neuro imaging (CT, MRI)

  • One block during R2, with Neuroradiology fellows covering the remaining blocks

Inpatient PM: Inpatient neuroradiology (CT); adult inpatient body, chest, and MSK imaging (CT, MRI, X-ray, ultrasound); pediatric inpatient imaging (CT, MRI); nuclear medicine imaging, including LLU Murrieta

  • One block during R3 and R4

Level 1: All ED/Inpatient radiographs, US, fluoro (excluding inpatient radiographs)

  • R2

Level 2: All ED/Inpatient non-neuro CT/MRI, nuclear medicine

  • R3

Neuro: All ED/Inpatient neuro CT/MRI

  • R4
  • 4-week-long rotation with q4d off schedule (3 nights on, 1 night off)
    • Total of 21-night shifts and 7 nights off
  • 3 residents on per night
  • Covered by R2, R3, and R4 residents
    • R2 (1 rotation): “Level 1” ED, UC, and inpatient studies (see “Weekday Call” above)
    • R3 (2 rotations): all ED, UC, and inpatient studies
    • R4 (3 rotations): all ED, UC,  and inpatient studies

Provide IR service coverage after daytime hours and during weekends, as detailed below. The covering resident is responsible for triaging and responding to consults, as well as coordinating procedures to be performed with the on-call attending.

  • Monday – Thursday after hours (5 PM – 8 AM): all the junior and senior residents on the rotation take turns being on call and holding the pager. On average, junior residents take overnight call one day a week.
  • Friday night (5 PM) – Monday morning (8 AM): split between IR junior/senior residents.
  • Weekday after-hours and weekends
  • Typically covered by IR and DR residents who are interested in neuro IR
  • Not required for diagnostic residents
  • Extra compensation for call coverage
