Call Schedule

Disclaimer: we do our best to keep call schedules accurate, but changes to the program happen including call schedules so your mileage may vary.

Here at Loma Linda, we split calls into different imaging modalities. Here’s a description of each type of call and who takes them.

Diagnostic Evening Call (Level 1): ED and urgent care radiographs, ultrasound, and fluoroscopies.

  • R1 “Buddy Call” (January-June)
  • R2 (July-December)

Body evening call (Level 2): All non-neuro inpatient studies.

  • R2 (January-June)
  • R3 (July-December)

These are shifts that you are assigned to for the entire 4-week rotation and are not additional shifts on top of a normal day shift.

Body PM (3pm-12am): ED/UC body CT/MR (3-9pm) + “Level 1” (9pm-12am)

  • One block during R2
  • IR residents do an additional block during R3

Neuro PM (1pm-9pm): ED/UC/Inpatient neuro CT/MR

  • One block during R2
  • Neuro fellows cover other blocks

Level 1: All ED/Inpatient radiographs, US, fluoro (excluding inpatient radiographs)

  • R2

Level 2: All ED/Inpatient non-neuro CT/MRI, nuclear medicine

  • R3

Neuro: All ED/Inpatient neuro CT/MRI

  • R4 or Neuro fellows
  • 4-week-long rotation with q4d off schedule (3 nights on – 1 night off)
    • Total of 21-night shifts and 7 nights off
  • 3 residents on per night
  • Cover All ED and Inpatient studies
  • Primarily covered by R3 and R4 residents
    • R3 (2 rotations)
    • R4 (3 rotations)

IR and Neuro IR have different call coverage which is primarily covered by IR residents and partially split amongst diagnostic residents Monday-Thursday

  • Monday–Thursday after hours: Pager is split between all junior and seniors residents on the rotation. On average, junior residents are taking overnight call approximately one day a week each.
  • Friday Night – Monday Morning: split between IR Junior/Senior Residents

IR and Neuro IR have different call coverage which is primarily covered by IR residents and partially split amongst diagnostic residents Monday-Thursday

  • Weekday after-hours and weekends
  • Typically covered by IR and DR residents who are interested in neuro IR
  • Not required for diagnostic residents
  • There is extra compensation for call coverage
